 THE STORY

Does a plant-based diet impact the environment the way everyone thinks ?

Plant-based diets tend to have a lot of reasoning on why people choose it. A vegan is a person who doesn’t consume any animal products and has a fully plant-based diet. A vegetarian is a person who doesn’t consume any animals or gelatin but consumes dairy and honey. A Pescatarian is a person who doesn’t consume meat but eats dairy, eggs, honey, fish, and other animals from the sea. A Flexitarian is a person with a primarily vegetarian diet but occasionally eats meat or fish. A Flexitarian usually stays vegetarian for a couple of weeks or months, then eats meat for the same time length they were vegetarian. As an omnivore is a person who consumes meat or fish year-round. Well, greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs radiant energy within the thermal infrared range. Primary sources in the Earth’s atmosphere are carbon dioxide, water vapor, ozone, methane, and nitrous oxide. Most people think plant-based diets are too expensive, only for celebrities and models. Yet, a plant-based diet is for everyone and the best part is it’s cheap.

A 2014 study from the American Heart Association, showed that most people who are on plant-based diet practices it because they had a twenty-eight percentage higher risk of heart failure. People tend to go on diets for  religion, weight loss, to save the environment or animals, and if they have a high risk for heart disease. Since religion is a good portion of why people choose this diet. I found that India is the number 1 country to have the most population being vegetarians. India ranked top in the world with 38%.Hinduism does not require a vegetarian diet, but some Hindus avoid eating meat because it minimizes hurting other life forms. Vegetarianism is considered satvic, that is purifying the body and mind. Many Hindus follow a vegetarian diet (that may or may not include eggs and dairy products), that they believe is in sync with nature, compassionate, respectful of other life forms.

In the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), the Bahai Faith and certain religion such as Sikhism, vegetarianism is less commonly viewed as a religious obligation, although in all these faiths there are groups actively promoting vegetarianism on religious grounds. Vegetarian became more popular after the introduction of Buddhism and Jainism, which was around the 6th century BC. The second biggest country was Israel followed by Taiwan. Yet, the top cities are London, New York City, Berlin, and Los Angeles.

According to Alliant International University, the world has approximately 0.4 percent vegan. Although, we have approximately 3.4 percent vegetarians in the world’s population. Interestingly, a Harvard study found a 32 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease among vegetarians than among non-vegetarians, although no health-based rating was given to the quality of the participants’ vegetarian diets. When the study went more in-depth, it explained that being associated with a healthy diet would lower the risk of developing heart disease. They added that the recommended diet “would also be environmentally sustainable” because plant-based food systems require fewer resources than those that rely heavily on animal foods. Thus, more plant foods and the fewer animal foods you eat, the lower your carbon footprint, and the less you would contribute to animal suffering. But to be truly beneficial, the plant foods you choose must be rich in nutrients.

When people follow the vegan diet correctly, it could reduce the risk of chronic disease and aid weight loss. Vegan diets tend to be rich in nutrients and low in saturated fats. Research suggests that the diet can improve heart health, protect against cancer, and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes. However, people who practice this diet tend to lack iron, calcium, and vitamin B-12. If the entire population switched to a vegan diet it would have a negative effect on public health, a new study claims. According to research published by the US National Academy of Sciences, everyone turning vegan would likely leave many people deficient in various nutrients. They found that if all animals were removed from the planet, the amount of food available to humans to eat would increase by 23 percent. This would lead to an increased supply of certain important nutrients, including carbohydrates, copper, magnesium, and cysteine.

Omnivores eat both plant and animal foods. Omnivores have a higher chance of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes than someone who practices plant-based diets. An omnivorous diet appears to increase the risk of abdominal fat, higher BMI, obesity, accelerated aging, and unhealthy stools. Other studies have found that individuals who switched from an omnivorous to a vegetarian diet had lower toxic metal levels of cadmium, lead, and mercury in their bodies. Children eating a plant-based diet was found to have the highest IQs, with those eating vegetarian ranking second, and omnivorous eaters at third. Although, being on a plant-based diet is not doing much better for the environment of their own health. And much of the tofu consumed in the United States (though not nearly as much as in Europe) is actually grown in South America, where acres of rainforests are being felled to meet growing demands. According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, the almost 4 million hectares of forests that are destroyed in South America every year can be largely blamed on the production of soy.

According to the New York Post, one in three Americans is considered themselves a “Flexitarian.” Meat is really expensive. According to research, people eat too much of it. Even though you’ll eat more fresh produce, you’ll save plenty of money by eating less meat. This is a good thing. Given that you still get the occasional animal product, overall — it’ll mean you will likely get a more nutrient-dense diet. This means you could live healthier — lower risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and live longer lives. Not only is it good for you, but it’s good for the environment. Yet, like every good, there is going to be bad. For instance, you could lower your iron deficiency. By this, you can’t donate blood. You could also have the potential to want to fill up on unhealthy foods. Some people are eating more junk and possessed options because they can’t get full of the salad causing it to be an unbalanced diet.

Although, many people are practicing this for religious reasons. Many others are practicing it for environmental beliefs. The reader could take action by picking a diet and working around what they choose to cut out. For example, if the reader chose vegetarian, they would start eating anything that doesn’t contain meat or gelatin. If most people went on a plant-based diet it could decrease obesity, greenhouse gas emissions, and clean the air.

We are not totally against non-vegetarian food. It is a choice. But wssretail is a vegetarian shop. We try to get food items from various parts of the country which is not much popular or not easily available here. Experience these quality products. If you want to change the world, change what you eat. Food is one area of your life where small modifications can have a big impact.
